Almost Maine
On a cold, clear winter night with the northern lights illuminating the sky, the residents of Almost find themselves navigating the complexities of love in unexpected and often humorous ways. The play captures moments of romance, heartbreak, and the magical realism that adds a touch of whimsy to the storytelling."Almost, Maine" is a play written by John Cariani that takes place in the fictional town of Almost, which is located in a remote, northern part of the United States. The setting is quirky, as Almost is not quite a town due to its lack of organization, and it's almost in Canada. The play consists of a series of nine interconnected vignettes, each portraying a different aspect of love.

Auditions for Almost Maine
By: John Caraiani
Presented by special arrangement with Broadway Licensing, LLC, serving the Dramatists Play Service Collection.
Auditions: September 30 and October 1, 2024
Performances: November 15-24, 2024
Directed By Dawn Roth Smith
Welcome to Almost, Maine, where on one cold, clear winter night, the northern lights dance in the star-filled sky above, casting a magical glow on the residents below. In this enchanting town, love is in the air, and the unexpected and hilarious ways it unfolds will warm your heart. Knees may get bruised, and hearts may break, but as the night progresses, they also heal and mend—almost, like a delightful midwinter night’s dream.
CASTING: Almost, Maine is an ensemble play featuring different couples in various stages of falling in or out of love. In the original production, each of the couples was portrayed by four actors. For our production, we aim to select the most talented actors from auditions, potentially resulting in a cast as large as 19 individuals. We are committed to casting actors of all ages, races, physical abilities, and sexual orientations to create a diverse and inclusive production.
Audition process: Each person wishing to be considered for the cast will be asked to cold read from the script. Please come prepared with a list of known conflicts that would prevent you from attending rehearsals Monday through Thursday 7:00 PM- 10:00 PM, from October 2 through November 24, 2024. Not every character will be called every night, but everyone will need to be available November 6-17 (Tech week and first weekend of performances) as well as November 21-24 (brush up rehearsal and second weekend).
If you have questions please reach out to Dawn Roth Smith: dawns1210@gmail.com.
