The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas Opens at Dayton Playhouse
The Dayton Playhouse kicks off its 2019-20 season with the rowdy musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Director Brian Sharp has assembled a terrific cast and crew for this incredibly fun musical which opens September 13 and runs three weekends through September 29.
Based on a true story, the show is set at the Chicken Ranch in Gilbert, Texas in the late 1970s. The “Ranch” has been operating for more than a century. The original owner left it to Mona Stagley who takes almost motherly care of her ‘girls.’ Mona is on good terms with the local sheriff but when a television reporter exposes the illegal activity going on at the ranch, eventually the town’s brothel closes.
Featuring colorful characters, the Aggie’s football team and town locals, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas has some memorable tunes folks will be humming on their way out including “Hard Candy Christmas”, “A Little ‘ole Bitty Pissant Country Place”, and “The Bus From Amarillo”.
Veteran director Sharp is excited about The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. “Much of this show’s message is relevant today, while still having a lot of fun. Make no mistake this show is full of adult language and themes (hence the title)…but if you don’t offend easily, you’re gonna have a great time!” Sharp said.
This is a show folks won’t want to miss so slip on your cowboy boots and get your tickets early . . . they’re going fast. For tickets, call the box office at 937-424-8477. Messages can be left at any time and calls will be returned. You can also purchase tickets online at the Dayton Playhouse web site.
